For pet owners who want to avoid expensive nail-trimming trips to the vet, this handy tool should come in handy. I would say, though, that the clippers seem more suited to larger animals, but the grinder should work well (I'm still waiting to get my cat, but I tried both ends on my own nails just to see how it worked). The whole thing is lighted for better visibility, it's USB rechargeable, and doesn't sound like a dreaded vacuum cleaner. The clipper is on one end and the grinder on the other, so both are very convenient. This would make a wonderful holiday gift for a pet owner.

It's the nature of most multitools to be a tradeoff between better convenience and worse functionality compared to quality individual tools. Unfortunately, this multitool is no exception to that rule.This tool combines a nail clipper on one end with a nail grinder on the other. That's nice, but putting both functions in one tool makes the device large and awkward to use.I love the nail clipping catcher attached to the clipper. It's easy to flip open and closed with one hand, which allows dumping the cuttings after each paw while holding onto my dog with the other hand. After cutting my Maltese's eighteen nails, I only saw one cut nail that had escaped the catcher.I was able to get a good look at how much nail I was cutting through the clear plastic of the catcher. In a well-lit bathroom, I didn't need the light on the clipper. It created an obscuring glare, so I turned it off, but in a dim environment, it might be helpful.The clipper is super loud, which my dog tolerated, but that's a drawback to this device. Most of the noise comes from the plastic handle hitting the plastic casing. After I had finished cutting my dog's nails, I noticed that if the slide lock, whose function is to hold the clipper closed, is engaged after the clipper is open, the clipper still operates, but the travel is less, so the handle doesn't hit the casing with each stroke, which greatly reduces the noise. The reduced travel is barely enough to close the gap between the blades, though, so I doubt the clipper would be as effective when operated in that way.Due to the size of this device, I was unable to get an optimal angle on most of my dog's nails. That's also a drawback.The grinder is fairly quiet. I let my dog see and hear and smell it before trying to use it on her, which helped, but her heart rate still went up, and she was afraid of it. The grinder's action is effective, but the device's casing is so big that I had great difficulty getting it into position. With my dog's right dew claw, I was able to use it. With her left dew claw, I gave up on using the grinder. I suppose I could've taken off the cover and tried to carefully use it that way. I'm not sure if the risk of injury (to my dog or to me) would be greater trying to work the grinder into position with the cover on or trying to use it with the cover off.Overall, the multitool concept is great, as is the nail clipping catcher, and I like the rechargeable battery. But the functionality leaves a lot to be desired.
